This is the artistic approach of the three members of the British-Belgian Ambient Jazz project Groovecatcher. With their Elektrolux debut, the U.K. producers Simon Cooper and Phil Webb and the Belgian singer Manuela Van Geenhoven have managed to release one of the highlights of the labelÇs 10th anniversary year. Their ÇAfter The RainÇ album is an intensive encounter of organic naturalistic Ambient pop and jazzy lounge sounds between Balearic Beats and mellow DrumÇnÇBass. GroovecatcherÇs music takes you from a smoky jazz club in the heart of town to a secluded beach to catch the sunrise, from a street-corner to an ocean drive. ÇAfter The RainÇ exudes an elegant cool... but with a free spirit that cannot and will not be tamedƒ European city chic meets the chill-out of the island beach, a jet-set rendezvous in a Transatlantic nu lounge. Based in Cornwall, U.K., Simon Cooper has worked professionally as a composer/producer for more than a decade, releasing 12 ambient and world lounge albums worldwide. In 2003 he created his unique music-eco project ÇThe Jeweled PlanetÇ with the richly talented singer Manuela Van Geenhoven. Simon and ManuelaÇs inspired collaboration not only helped raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund and Vrienden Van De Olifant but also resulted in the birth of Groovecatcher in 2004. Bringing in the dynamic energy of producer/V.J. Phil Webb was the final piece of the jigsaw, Groovecatcher was complete and ready to introduce their blend of Çstreet vs. chicÇ to the world. Groovecatcher created their debut ÇAfter The RainÇ album from an inspired fusion of enticing elegance and creative fire. Evocative grooves captured from old 78s, retro strings reaching stratospheric heights, a heat haze of sound and rhythm from the street, to the beach, to the Latin lounge. GroovecatcherÇs Chill-Out anthems ÇIntoxicatedÇ, ÇWalking ByÇ, ÇAfter The RainÇ and ÇAngel Of NatureÇ get their emotional power from the interaction of ManuelaÇs bewitching vocals with the deep melancholy of the Downbeat Dubs by Cooper/Webb. Mediterranean beach feelings are given a modern soundtrack, evoking romantic nights in big city canyonsƒ just like breathing deeply after the fall of summer rain.
